Dear Families,
We begin our class Friendship Circle each week with the Sh'ma and a song that explains the concept of "mitzvah goreret mitzvah." Please ask your child to chant the Sh'ma for you and to explain our song.
We began to talk about Shabbat today, the holiday that comes every week. Please ask your child to tell you when it starts and ends, why we observe it, and how we celebrate the start of Shabbat. We say the prayers for grape juice and bread each day at snack time, and we'll be learning the candle blessing soon.
Stay tuned for information about a special class Shabbat project that we will work on over the next several weeks. Your child can give you a hint.
Rabbi Jaech gave us an "up close" look at theTorahs in our sanctuary. You can ask your child to tell you why they have such beautiful covers and ornaments on them. She then read a story about Noah, his wife Nehama and the chameleons on their ark.
Just a reminder that our class will begin in the sanctuary each day and end upstairs in Room 9, across the hall from our classroom. If that changes for any week, I'll notify you.
Also, we collect money for Tzedakah every week. Soon, our students will determine which charity or charities they want to raise money to support this year. Any amount your child brings in is fine.
Have a wonderful week!
L'hitraot,
Cherie & Ilana

MayMay 11 , 2024Brotherhood-Sisterhood Movie Night: The Apartment
Shabbat, May 11th 7:00pm to 9:30pm
"The Apartment". From 1960, the story of a young New York insurance company employee, trying to get ahead by “loaning” his apartment to other executives. His life becomes complicated with unintended consequences when he falls in love with the office-building elevator operator. Directed by the legendary Billy Wilder it stars Jack Lemmon & Shirley McClaine in one of their best roles. The movie is a beautiful and funny love story but also a pointed commentary on office politics, morality and how certain men treat women, circa 1960. The Broadway play “Promises, Promises” is the musical version of this wonderful film. -
