About Our Congregation
temple israel of Northern Westchester
Our Congregation
Temple Israel of Northern Westchester is a vibrant Reform congregation in Croton on Hudson, NY with 300 member families and a 75 year history serving the many towns and villages of Northern Westchester, including Briarcliff Manor, Cortlandt Manor, Millwood, Ossining, Peekskill, Pleasantville and Yorktown Heights.
Our diverse membership encompasses a wide range of Jewish beliefs, practices and backgrounds. Yet, congregants find a common and shared spiritual bond with Judaism. Since its inception, Temple Israel continues on a spiritual path reflecting the enduring traditions of Judaism, while serving the current needs of our members.
We learn, celebrate, and observe together while always trying to embody the values of our Jewish tradition including tzedekah (charitable giving) and tikkun olam (repairing the world). We endeavor to connect our members and their families to each other as well as to the broader Jewish world to develop and enrich our community. We joyfully welcome anyone seeking to join our Jewish community.
TEMPLE ISRAEL Community Space
our Building and facility
Our building is nestled in the wooded hills of Croton on Hudson, surrounded by nature and a stone's throw from wooded trails and the scenic Croton Dam. Temple Israel houses a peaceful and beautiful sanctuary, an event space (Oneg room), and multiple meeting spaces for formal or informal meetings. Temple Israel's religious school (Center for Jewish Learning) resides in the building's upper floor.
values in action
One of our core values - caring for our world- is embodied in our building which is fitted with a solar panel system that allows us to use renewable energy and reduces our carbon footprint.
- The system will save the Temple well over a quarter of a million dollars over its lifetime.
- It will reduce atmospheric carbon as if the Temple had created well over 200 acres of mature forest. Now that's a lot of green!
