Mrs. Deckert and Mr. Chazdon

Shalom Kitah Dalet families,

**Kitah Dalet will participate in a special family Shabbat 12/6/19. Dalet families will share dinner together followed by a service including kitah dalet on the bima. More information to follow.

Here is a brief summary of what we plan to cover in the coming weeks:

11/3/19: The class will begin our unit on being a mensch! We will frame the unit with the idea that a mensch uses Jewish values to help them make good decisions. In Hebrew, we say these values are middot and we will learn about these throughout the year. As we approached the High Holidays, we talked about the value of teshuvah, returning to our best selves. This week we will talk about rachamim, compassion. We will talk about compassion not simply as a kindness, but the ability to put oneself in another's shoes.

11/17: Our middah/value for the day will be emet, truth and honesty. We always begin our mensch lessons with a related story from our tradition. We then continue with discussions of how this middah/value relates to our lives.

11/24: With Thanksgiving in sight, our middah for the day will be hakarat hatov, recognizing the good. We will introduce an extended list of middot and a class mitzvah chart. As the students begin to recognize that they are incorporating these values in their everyday lives, they will add stickers to our chart.

12/8: How much do we know about Hanukkah? We will review the story, the traditions and of course, play a little dreidel! The students will have a chance to make a beautiful keepsake Hanukkah craft.

12/15: All dalet parents are invited to join us in the classroom for a morning of Hanukkah fun and games! We will then join the TINW community for a special Hanukkah concert!

*Please check our hallway bulletin board frequently. We will change it throughout the year with kitah dalet art, photos and classwork.

*Now that the fall holidays are over, kitah dalet will meet weekly with Rabbi Jaech and Cantor Lauren during clergy time. We started this week with Cantor, singing some joyful new songs .

*We continue to meet weekly with Ariela for Hebrew Through Movement. our modern Hebrew vocabulary is growing each week as we practice lakum, lashevet, and leekpotz! Hint: there's lots of jumping and running together, and pointing to holiday articles as we raise them up high!

Please reach out to me if you have any questions.

l'shalom,

Morah Betsy Deckert

Dear Parents,

Shalom from Kitah Dalet!

Due to our in-class Alephbet exercise on 10/6 and Simhat Torah session on 10/20, we fell a bit behind on the assignment schedule.

This month, we will be working toward the following goals:

  • Recognize by name and sound and additional 7 letters and 1 vowel (listed below in order by week)
  • Learn the use of the “double-duty dot” with Shin (שׁ) and Sin (שׂ)
  • Practice decoding letter-vowel combinations with those letters and vowels

Here is a brief summary of what we plan to cover each week:

11/3/19

  1. will be away but Ms. Deckert will provide a Hebrew session. This will consist of review of previously learned letters and vowels and learning stations for reinforcing their decoding skills. The newest letters and vowels were Khaf ( (צ/ץ) and TSA-dee,( נ/ן) Noon ,(כ/ך. No new letters or vowels will be introduced but a clue game assignment about the letters will be given out.
