Mr. Chazdon and Mrs. Deckert

Shalom Kitah Dalet Parents,

It was great to see everyone Sunday at our Kitah Dalet Hanukkah program! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. I was pleased with much of the Hebrew decoding that we saw in Hebrew Bingo. Since we didn’t have a formal Hebrew session I did not assign homework.

It’s not too late to donate food to our food drive. I will deliver the donations to the Croton Caring Committee next Sunday after weighing them.

As you know, next Sunday will be the last class of the first semester. Our students have completed their Alephbet and vowel review and will bring home their own copies of Mitkadem, the text from which their home assignments were photocopied. They will get started on applying their decoding abilities to learning our assigned Hebrew prayers, starting the Mi Khamokha, turning their attention to the “Four Questions” for Pesah and, then, to V’Ahavta to end the school year. This study will present many opportunities to expose them to important concepts in the Hebrew language, such as three-letter roots, prefixes and suffixes and a few other basic grammatical practices. I get excited about pointing out the connection between larger words and their roots and the connections between ancient and modern vocabulary. Your on-going support of your child’s Hebrew practice time will be much appreciated!

L’shalom,

Lane Chazdon

Dear Kitah Dalet families,

We had a wonderful Sunday celebrating Hanukkah together!

*We played family Hanukkah BINGO as we reviewed Hanukkah vocabulary and practiced reading Hebrew together.

*Mr. Chazdon led a session of Hebrew Through Movement, with an emphasis on Hanukkah vocabulary. See photos as kids ran and danced around the Hanukkiah!

*Everyone shared the delicious Brotherhood latkes!

*We ended the day with a visit from the famous Bible Players. They rapped and joked and made us all laugh as they retold the story of the Maccabees!

Hag Orim Sameakh/ Happy Festival of Lights to all our wonderful families!
