Dear Rosh Hodesh families:
Last night we reviewed the story of Purim, mostly focusing on both Vashti and Esther and their courage to stand up for what they believed in, at a time when women had no public or political voice. Stacy Shapiro joined us for this activity.
We welcomed the confirmands to our classroom for dinner, games, and discussion of their recent trip to Washington, D.C. I know that our 9th grade girls are really looking forward to participating in that trip next year.
We followed up on some of prior "body/beauty" conversations with role-playing what we might say to dissuade a [possibly] eating disordered friend from pursuing the "appearance ideal." We also began a conversation on social media use/overuse, which we will continue next week.
Next week, 3/6, will be Rosh Hodesh Adar 2, so we will hopefully make hamentaschen for our last RH meeting of the year. The girls voted last night on apricot and chocolate fillings, but if you weren't there, please let me know your preferences. We will also tie up the discussion with #metoo, sexting, privacy, and related topics.
